New Toyota office building constructed using 250 miles of reinforced steel from recycled automobiles

Glumac provided mechanical engineering services for this new three-story office building constructed at the existing campus. The project received a Gold Level Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building rating system. The complex, designed by LPA Inc. and built by Turner Construction, the largest ever to receive a LEED® Gold rating, has 624,000 square feet of office space and will initially house about 2,000 Toyota associates.

Metier Alliance Celebrates 4 Years of Bringing Global Engineering Expertise to Local Projects

Visit the Metier Alliance at the USGBC Greenbuild Conference in Portland, Oregon - November 8th - 12th at Booth 440.

Having collaborated on projects with ccrd partners and Lincolne Scott, for over 10 years, the Metier Alliance was established as a formal partnership to better serve our clients. Many of our clients were doing work throughout the United States and internationally and having an established relationship with other engineering firms throughout the world, allowed us to better address our client's needs.

CCRD Partners is an MEP engineering firm with offices in Dallas and Houston Texas, Richmond, Virginia and Miami, Florida. They have special expertise in laboratory projects including bio level IV facilities and large medical institutions.

Lincolne Scott has six offices in Australia, as well as branch offices in Southeast Asia. Their special expertise is in advanced computer modeling, sustainable design, and high-rise residential projects.

As members of the Metier Alliance, the firms have collaborated on three significant hospital projects, two high-rise residential projects, two data center projects and several resort projects. We also have exchanged employees to provide a technology and cultural exchange. The Metier Alliance meets twice a year for board meetings and will be meeting this November in Portland, Oregon, which will culminate in a client reception on November 11th. For more information on the Metier Alliance see our web site at www.metieralliance.com

Architects say "Yes!" to Radiant Heating and Cooling

Integrating heating and cooling with the architecture of a building is a challenge on any project. Glumac worked closely with Morphosis, the design architect, DLR the executive architect, and took a leading role in designing an innovative solution for providing a comfortable environment for the Wayne L. Morse Courthouse. High ceilings and large glass areas presented additional challenges. By engineering radiant heating and cooling into the floor, better temperature control and comfort could be achieved. But the real magic is that the ventilation ducting could now be much smaller. Smaller ducts provide more aesthetic flexibility by fitting more easily into existing walls and ceiling spaces. No more unsightly ducts. Learn more about radiant heating and cooling and its effects on building design.

The International Exchange

Glumac San Francisco has lent Josh McMahan to Lincolne Scott's Sydney Australia office. We did get something in return though - they've sent us Brett McDonald in exchange. This kind of program has been going on now for seven years, where Metier Alliance partners exchange employees with one another to share knowledge between the firms. Each exchange builds the relationships further.

After 33 Years, Glumac Gets a New Look

Even engineers need a change - some of us even welcomed it. With 2004 marking our 33rd year in business, we thought it was time to have our identity reflect the changes and growth our firm has experienced. We retained WOW! A Branding Company, a dynamic brand identity firm based in Vancouver, to create our new identity, and to get us focused on who we are and where we're going. As we move forward, you'll notice the prominence of our dedication to innovative sustainable design, our commitment to responsiveness, and our belief is that it takes great people to make great projects happen. We are doing everything we can to make sure you always get our best - it's our promise to you.
