Providence Newberg Medical Center
Goes for the Gold

Rick Hartung P.E., Portland Associate Mechanical Engineer

There is a new kid on the block when it comes to the rarefied ranks of certified LEED® Gold buildingsa hospital. And what makes this new building special is that it's the first hospital in the country to earn the prestigious Gold designation. This is a singular, outstanding achievement for Providence Health System, setting the bar in the healthcare industry for what it means to "go green."

Back to School in Green: Oregon State University Kelley Engineering Center

Bob Schroeder, P.E., LEED® AP, Portland Associate Principal and
Sonya Salanti, Portland Marketing Coordinator

As summer fades, electrical and computer engineering students and faculty at Oregon State University can look forward to spending more time indoors, namely in the Kelley Engineering Center on the Oregon State University Campus. The Center, which had its grand opening last fall, is a star example of green building design that combines smart sustainable building technology with innovative architectural design.

Glumac's Approach to Data Center Design and Commissioning

Aryn Bergman, LEED® AP, San Francisco Mechanical Designer

The data center industry is on the rise again, but with a different focus. In the €90's, it was construction speed; this time around it is operating efficiency. Data center owners have had to learn the hard way that operating costs can quickly outweigh construction costs. Glumac has developed an exciting new data center design process with the efficiency issue at its core. This translates into huge savings for our clients.

Renewable Energy Certificates Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Chien Si Harriman, LEED® AP, San Francisco Senior Design Engineer

Climate change experts such as Jim Hansen, the director of NASA's premier climate research center, believe that the earth's atmosphere is at a tipping point. The major culprit: greenhouse gases. He gave testimony in 1988 to a Senate committee, and later stated to reporters, "It's time to stop waffling so much and say the greenhouse effect is here and is affecting our climate now." For conscientious consumers of energy, this message is really a siren for change–to reduce consumption and find alternatives to the greenhouse gas emitting fossil fuels that we consume each day. Glumac is finding new ways to reduce global greenhouse gases every day, and have recently found we can do more.
