Greenbuild attendees in November will be among the first to preview The Ecological Engineer: Glumac, a new book written by Dave Macaulay and scheduled to be published in 2011 by Ecotone, the green building publishing house led by eco-visionary Jason McLennan.

The Ecological Engineer: Glumac is the second of a series of Ecotone books that give a behind-the-scenes look at the most innovative engineers in North America and the practices and principles that push sustainable design to new frontiers – and create green buildings that really work.

The book also is on track to be among the first green building texts available via iPad, in keeping with Glumac’s commitment to sustainability and to designing at the limit of new technology.

The book will include an in-depth examination and illustrations of select projects that have been at the forefront of sustainable design on the West Coast:

  • Twelve West Building, Portland, Oregon: on track for two LEED Platinum certifications
  • The Gerding Theater, Portland, Oregon: LEED Platinum and showcases district energy solutions
  • Oregon State University Kelley Engineering Center, Corvallis, Oregon: the first LEED Gold academic engineering building in the nation and a living laboratory for engineering students
  • The Wayne L. Morse U.S. Federal Courthouse, Eugene, Oregon: the first LEED Gold federal courthouse in the nation
  • The Port of Long Beach, Long Beach, California : expected to achieve LEED Gold certification.

Readers will learn of the sustainable design features in each of these projects, challenges faced and overcome, and about how Glumac’s design efforts focus on creating green buildings that really work.

While Glumac prides itself on being at the forefront of sustainable design, we also are deeply rooted in history.  The book will discuss our firm’s background and cultural underpinnings set by founder Dick Glumac, other significant projects in our company’s history, and our plans to continue doing great engineering into the future.

Glumac is hosting a preview celebration of The Ecological Engineer: Glumac on the evening of Wednesday, November 17th, during Greenbuild. The event will be held at Gensler’s Chicago office, and has a limited-space guest list. If you are interested in attending, please Save the Date. You will receive further details closer to the event.
And keep your eyes peeled for more details and a special offer for the book in our Sustainability Matters November 2010 issue.
